Name: Alden Hirschfeld
Previous Team: Mahoning Valley Phantoms (NAHL)
Height/Weight: 6’2, 190lbs
Hometown: Sylvania, Ohio
Born: January 26, 1988

Hirschfeld, a forward, spent two seasons with the Mahoning Valley Phantoms of the NAHL and was selected second overall by the now defunct Ohio Junior Blue Jackets in the 2007 USHL draft. Here are his Phantom career stats (playoff games included):

-47 goals
-60 assists
-107 points
-Finished his Mahoning Valley career with a +21 rating

Here’s what Coach Blasi had to say about the Ohio native:

>Glumac signed by Montreal

>Former RedHawk Mike Glumac (Class of ’02) has signed a one-year, two way contract with the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens. Glumac had previously spent his professional career with the St. Louis Blues organization, playing most of his games as a part of the Blues AHL club, the Peoria Rivermen. At Miami, Glumac tallied 34 goals and 23 assists from 1998-2002.

>Former RedHawk defenseman Dan Boyle (Class of ’98) has been acquired by the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. Boyle, who spent 6 years of his professional career on the Tampa Bay blueline, was sent to San Jose, along with Lightning teammate Brad Lukowich in exchange for Matt Carle, Ty Wishart, a first round 2009 draft pick and a fourth round draft pick in the 2010 draft. In his 4 years at Miami, Boyle netted 40 goals and 107 assists for a total of 147 points and was a 1997 & 1998 First Team West All-American selection.

Former RedHawk captain Ryan Jones (Class of ’08) has been traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Marek Zidlicky. Minnesota has also sent Nashville a second round pick in the 2009 NHL Draft.

>Effinger to attend Blues development camp

Former RedHawks goaltender Charlie Effinger (Class of ’08) has been invited to the St. Louis Blues development camp this week at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Effinger finished his Miami career with a record of 33-14-4. His best season came during the 2005-2006 campaign, when Effinger finished with a 12-4-3 record and a 1.83 GAA/.983 save percentage, good for second best nationally.

Miami RedHawks sophomore Tommy Wingels was selected by the San Jose Sharks with the 177th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft. As a freshman during the season, Wingels had 15 goals and 14 assists, for a total of 29 points.
