Wingels drops gloves for 1st time in NHL

Former Miami captain Tommy Wingels dropped the gloves for the first time in his NHL career tonight and came away with the decision in the Sharks’ bad 6-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. What was extra satisfying about the fight is that he decisioned former Ohio State hack Buckeye, R.J. Umberger.

Wingels from Boyle

Former Miami captain Tommy Wingels scored his first NHL goal last night in his hometown of Chicago as the San Jose Sharks dropped a 4-3 decision to the Blackhawks. Wingels, who helped lead Miami to back-to-back Frozen Four appearances has 13 goals in 29 games for the Worcester Sharks this year. Last season, he netted 17 goals and 33 points for Worcester in 69 games, but in his 12th NHL game, he finally broke through off a rebound of a point blast by former Miami All-America defenseman Dan Boyle.

Say It Ain’t So, Tommy!

According to buzz on the World Wide Web, Miami captain Tommy Wingels has signed an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks and will forego his final year of elegibility as a RedHawk, in favor or joining the professional ranks.
